The Convenient Storage Facility

Despite their great invention, self storage facilities can be quite impractical, though they are usually very convenient. From multi-level facilities without elevators to malfunctioning climate control, storage facilities may not be for everyone, but they ultimately provide a great service to those who can look past these shortcomings or find better luck at newer facilities that come with convenient amenities.

Sometimes on multilevel storage facilities, one of the biggest problems people face is being stuck on the upper floor with inconvenient access. Most locations will provide elevator access to units above ground, but for the majority of the time, people want to be able to move their objects directly from their car into the storage space. Larger items especially are not as mobile and shouldn’t experience much movement to begin with. Industrial-sized trolley carts are often provided by storage facilities to move these large appliances, but they barely make a difference when they can only carry one object at a time.

For this reason, storage facilities have started to place larger units around on the bottom level along the exterior so that cars and trucks can simply pull up to their storage space and place their items inside. If all else fails, there will usually be a small staff available on-site to give an extra hand. Though it should be a complimentary service, some places do charge for any onsite staff members who help move your things into your unit. Nevertheless, trolleys and push carts are readily at one’s disposition at most storage facilities to facilitate the smooth transference of your objects.
Climate Control Convenience
One of the greatest amenities of renting a unit at a storage facility is the climate-controlled units. Climate control is an important feature to have in a storage facility because it prevents dust, pests, and mold from infiltrating into your storage unit and all over your stored possessions. Unlike moving trucks, items in storage units do not have to be wrapped in cellophane or padded with blankets, as the objects are unlikely to shift once inside. However, this means that the objects are exposed to air in a confined space, which can lead to dust forming and unpleasant odors wafting throughout.

Climate control usually means setting the temperature of the storage unit’s interior to a cooler and less-humid level so that the objects inside are not subject to damage and dust that can arise when various items are placed in a confined space (think of museum galleries which also require climate control to preserve the artwork).

Nowadays, most storage facilities come with state-of-the-art climate control systems to adjust to the diverse items tenants bring in, which range from office supplies to home goods to, yes, even actual artwork. Above all, Storage facilities must be flexible and able to adjust to the various clients that come their way.
